Overview
Summit Academy supports students with complex needs. We provide behavioral, academic, social, communication, and life skills instruction. Using applied behavior analysis (ABA) and evidence-based practices and interventions, we create individualized behavior, education, and transition plans that help students thrive in school and beyond.
- We focus our work in trauma-informed, student-driven practices that honor each learner’s lived experience. Through safety, compassion, and trust, we create environments where students and families feel seen, valued, and supported in every part of their growth. Collaboration is essential to our work—students, families, and community partners share a voice and vision for our students' futures.
- We use research-driven academic and behavioral strategies to meet the complex needs of our students. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and strong partnerships with families and districts, we ensure our approaches are accessible, responsive, and follow best practice.
- We advocate boldly and speak respectfully. This strengthens relationships and upholds student dignity. We invest in staff development, knowing that a well-supported team rises together to meet challenges, expand capacity, and ensure excellence for every learner.
About Expedition Behavioral Education
Summit Academy is a program of ESD 113's Expedition Behavioral Education. Expedition helps students grow through structured programs, skilled staff, and strong partnerships with families and schools. Our mission is to teach students with social, emotional, or behavioral challenges the skills necessary to achieve greater success in their home schools and communities.
We empower school districts by providing tailored support and resources to help students with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges succeed in their least restrictive environments. We offer three connected supports: Olympic Academy, Summit Academy, and Pathfinder Services.
Our principles of professional practice serve as the foundation for achieving our program goals and ensuring positive outcomes for every student:
- Student-centered empowerment
- Collaborative partnership
- Evidence-based excellence
- Professional growth and advocacy
These principles represent the shared commitments and daily actions of all staff across our programs. They guide how we engage with students, families, and school partners, ensuring that our supports are individualized, research-based, and rooted in respect. By aligning our professional practice with these core principles, we create safe, inclusive, and effective learning environments. These principles are not just ideals: they are the concrete actions we take each day to help students succeed in their home schools and communities.
